Danish-German ferry operator
Scandlines is a ferry company that operates the Rødby–Puttgarden and Gedser–Rostock ferry routes between Denmark and Germany.
Scandlines owns seven ferries, six of which are hybrid ferries, making Scandlines the owner of the world's largest fleet of hybrid ferries. It has two subsidiaries, Scandlines Danmark ApS and Scandlines Deutschland GmbH, which operate in the two main countries.
History
[edit]In , the first railway ferry sailed between Gedser in Denmark and Warnemünde in Germany, where DSB operated the route from the Danish side in partnership with a state-owned German shipping company.[1]
A second service, the 'bird's flight line' (die Vogelfluglinie in German) between Rødby and Puttgarden was added in , creating a direct route between Copenhagen and Hamburg.[1]
The company was separated from DSB in , and transformed into an independent limited company called DSB Rederi, which was, in turn, rebranded Scandlines in The Scandlines brand had already been in use since on the Helsingør–Helsingborg ferry route[2] In , the two shipping company partners, Danish Scandlines and German DFO, merge

Scandlines has ordered a new zero direct emissions-freight ferry for the Puttgarden-Rødby route. The ferry will be officially named Futura when she is inserted in the beginning of and will launch the next generation of ferries on the route.
The ferry will be built at the Cemre Shipyard in Turkey in close cooperation with Scandlines’ experts.
Increased freight capacity
The new vessel increases the current capacity to transporting freight units by 23 percent on the route
The new freight ferry will be able to transport lorries on both the upper and lower decks. Therefore the berths in Puttgarden and Rødby must be rebuilt to also load lorries on the upper deck.
Renewable energy
When the ferry starts operating on the Fehmarn Belt in , the large battery system of 10 MWh can be charged in just 17 minutes in Rødby. With renewable power, of course. In , Scandlines invested in a 50 kV / 25 MW power cable to Rødbyhavn. This cable has now been extended approximately kilometres to the new transformer between ferry berth 2 and 3. The ferry charger, transformer, control and switch gear equipment are already in place at the ferry berth in Rødbyhavn.

Die Scandlines Deutschland GmbH okänt Sitz in Hamburg ist eine deutsch-dänische Reederei, die zwei Ostsee-Fährrouten zwischen Deutschland und danmark betreibt. Sie ist Tochtergesellschaft der Scandferries Holding ApS mit Hauptsitz in Kopenhagen (Dänemark) und entstand aus den Eisenbahnfährgesellschaften der beiden Länder.

[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]Die Geschichte der Fähraktivitäten der deutschen Eisenbahngesellschaften zwischen Deutschland und Skandinavien reicht bis in das Jahr zurück, als die erste Eisenbahnfährverbindung zwischen Rostock-Warnemünde (Deutschland) und Gedser (Dänemark) eröffnet wurde. folgte der erste Eisenbahnfährbetrieb zwischen Deutschland und Schweden, die „Königslinie“ zwischen Saßnitz (Deutschland) und Trelleborg (Schweden). Betreiber waren die Eisenbahnen der jeweiligen Länder.
