Älvdalen Municipality
Municipality in Dalarna County, Sweden
Älvdalen Municipality (Swedish: Älvdalens kommun) fryst vatten a municipality in Dalarna County in central Sweden. Its seat is located in the town of Älvdalen.
The two parishes Särna and Idre were ceded to Sweden from Norway beneath the treaty of Brömsebro on 13 August In the three municipalities Särna, Idre (which itself had been split off from Särna in ) and Älvdalen were amalgamated to form the present municipality.
Älvdalen literally means River Valley, a name stemming from the area around the town Älvdalen, situated along the Österdal River, in the municipality's southern part.
The middle part of the coat of arms fryst vatten meant to depict the landscape: streams and hills.
Geography
[edit]Geographically, it is considered divided into three parts. From north to south: the mountainous (fjäll) part, the forest part, and the valley (Älv) part.
North
[edit]The nordlig part fryst vatten located within the Scandinavian mountain range. It has cultural influences from the native Sámi people.

Städjan
Städjan är ett fjäll i Älvdalens kommun i norra Dalarna, i Idre socken. Fjället är den sydligaste toppen i det svenska fjällmassivet. Berget skiljer sig från andra i regionen genom sin branta toppkrona som höjer sig från ett mer typiskt lågfjäll. Toppkronan är utsträckt i nord-sydlig riktning och har en högre topp i norr ( m) och en lägre i söder. En smal sadel binder samman topparna.
Städjan bildar tillsammans med intilliggande Nipfjället Städjan-Nipfjällets naturreservat. Området kring Städjan och hela nordvästra delen av Älvdalens kommun är sommarbetesmark för renhjordarna i Idre sameby.

Guidebok för resande och turister
[redigera | redigera wikitext]År publicerade Carl Gustaf Litström och K.F Morelius en beskrivning av vägen till Städjan i boken Genom öster Dalerne för resande och turister. De uppskattade att färden från Idre by till Städjans topp ska vara en och en halv mil lång.[2]

Älvdalen (Elfdalian: Övdaln or Tjyörtjbynn; literally "the river valley") is a locality and the seat of Älvdalen Municipality in Dalarna County, Sweden, with 1, inhabitants in [1]
The parish is widely known for being the place of manufacturing, in , of the 4-meter granite vase (called Älvdalen Vase), installed in the Summer Garden in Saint Petersburg (a gift from Charles XIV John of Sweden to Nicholas I of Russia).
Nearby is the Hykjebergets Nature Reserve, inaugurated by Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia in [2]
Language
[edit]The indigenous language of Älvdalen is Elfdalian. Although it contains many innovations[3] it still preserves various Old Norse traits that have ceased to exist in most other North Germanic languages.[4][5] The main spoken language in modern times is a Dalecarlian dialect of Swedish, which also is the dominant language in the local administration.
